El Rapto de Europa es un conjunto de covers virados al pop sin disimulo, que si llegan a tener cierta acidez contestataria es porque no sabemos cómo terminarán las cosas en estos tiempos. La contingencia es algo involuntario a diferencia de lo artístico que, siempre, deviene del trabajo poético. Pienso que tener un smartphone es maravilloso. Ni que decir de la Inteligencia Artificial. La posibilidad de crear imágenes con estas herramientas tecnológicas, en todas partes, era el regalo que soñaba desde niño. Aquí hay maquetas y bocetos que inicié hace años utilizando aplicaciones rusas y chinas, que armé y desarmé hasta que de repente, hace pocos días, con la tecnología actualizada, llegué a lo que quería exhibir. En estas obras rescatadas, que encontré revisando mis discos duros, está el disfrute de volver a hacer imágenes que no iban a ningún lado. A veces, solo es un asunto de tiempo.
The Abduction of Europa presents a collection of unabashedly pop-inflected covers that, if they possess a certain confrontational edge, it is because we exist in uncertain times. Contingency manifests involuntarily, unlike artistic expression, which invariably emerges from poetic labor. The smartphone represents a marvel of our age. Artificial Intelligence even more so. The ability to create images with these technological tools, anywhere and at any moment, is the gift I had dreamed of since childhood. Presented here are maquettes and sketches initiated years ago using Russian and Chinese applications—assembled and disassembled until suddenly, mere days ago, updated technology allowed me to achieve what I wished to exhibit. Within these recovered works, discovered while reviewing my hard drives, lies the pleasure of creating images with no predetermined destination. Sometimes, it is merely a question of time.
Arturo Cariceo
Arturo Cariceo (Santiago, 1968) es pintor chileno y académico de la Facultad de Artes de la Universidad de Chile. Su área de creación e investigación se centra en la noción de comparecencia de obra. Desde 1987, llama a todo su quehacer Obra Invisible, que consiste en la creación de imágenes que interpelan el “punto ciego” del espectador (creencias, prejuicios y cuestionamientos culturales). Este enfoque se desarrolla en el marco de su tesis sobre la Singularidad Artística, que propone prescindir de los espacios presenciales del arte (galerías, ferias y museos). Expone en Internet desde 1995.
Arturo Cariceo (Santiago, 1968) is a Chilean painter and academic at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile. His area of creation and research focuses on the notion of the presence of the work. Since 1987, he has called all of his work Invisible Work, which consists of the creation of images that challenge the viewer’s “blind spot” (beliefs, prejudices, and cultural questions). This approach is developed within the framework of his thesis on Artistic Singularity, which proposes to dispense with the physical spaces of art (galleries, fairs, and museums). He has been exhibiting online since 1995.
